Students will begin to study and understand the historic processes and events that shaped modern civilizations from Ancient to Medieval times. This course is a survey and critical examination of global history in which students explore the social, political, religious, economic, intellectual, and artistic achievements of the earliest human societies until roughly 1500 C.E.
Course Design
World History is the study of the evolution of the human societies. It focuses on space (various societies around the world), time (the chronology the rise and fall of human societies from 5000 BC to AD 1991), systems of beliefs, and the interaction of these societies when they met each other at different time in history (through conquests, colonization and settlements, and trade).
The course will be divided into two semesters.
Fall 2021 : Study of the development of Civilizations and how those Civilizations have developed and changed. World Past Civilizations (from the earliest ancestors, to 5000 BC to AD 476)
During the first semester, the focus will be on the first half of the first textbook. A Midterm and a Final exam will follow. The first semester aims at providing students with a general view of the world main past civilizations.
Spring 2022: Study of Modern History (from AD 1300 to AD 1919)
During the second semester, the focus will be on the second half of the textbook. A Midterm and a Final exam will follow. Knowledge taught during the first semester is a prerequisite to start the second semester.
