This course is designed to assist students with developing a basic command of French language through hands-on reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. Students will build on vocabulary attained in French I to more easily express themselves in the French language.
Course Design
Intro to French is the study of a language and culture. It focuses on vocabulary, grammar, situations, expressing ourselves differently and understanding a new phonic system.
Intro to French aims at introducing a new sound system, discovering a new language, learning new linguistic skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will develop a new spoken language, learn to identify similar linguistic patterns and differences. Students will therefore develop and acquire reading, speech and linguistic skills.
The course will be divided into two semesters.
Fall 2021 : Phonics, pronunciation, new characters, introductions, basic vocabulary, basic sentences in context, basic grammar, French geography
During the first semester, the focus will be on the first half of the first textbook. A Midterm and a Final exam will follow. The first semester aims at providing students with a general view of the world main past civilizations.
Spring 2022: Advanced grammar, key verbs, expressions, French culture
During the second semester, the focus will be on the second half of the second textbook. A Midterm and a Final exam will follow. Knowledge taught during the first semester is a prerequisite to start the second semester.
