St. Mary School Online Academy (SMOA) is a global online learning platform by St. Mary's School, a century-old American institution, who’s excellence has transcended time and has grown to bring authentic American high school education to Asian countries like China, South Korea, Vietnam, etc. SMOA, headquarters of St. Mary’s School in the United States, and the 10 campuses in China are interlinked and seamlessly connected to the traditional American education management system. This means students have access to the standard American curriculum American student grading system, American teachers and staff, and standard American high school courses, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, language support courses, core cultural courses, STEM courses, and more, which are offered online and taught by experienced American teachers in China Standard Time.

Rvan Bernard
President of School
A native of Colorado, Ryan Bernard joined St. Mary’s in 2010 after more than a decade in private and public education. Ryan was hired as an A.P. Literature teacher and within three years, was promoted to the school’s Academic Dean. By 2015, he was promoted again, assuming the role of High School Vice Principal where he facilitated St. Mary’s international program, assisted in the capital campaign for additional buildings, and helped lead the accreditation team, all the while remaining in the classroom with students.
In 2022, Ryan was named president of St. Mary’s School and in one short year has overseen record enrollment, nearly $2 million in fundraising, and has focused on expanding the school domestically and internationally.
Ryan received his B.A. in English from the University of Colorado at Boulder before earning his M.A. from Middlebury College. In 2019, Ryan completed a Master’s of Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame.
