Study the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have shaped the world from c. 1200 CE to the present. You’ll analyze texts, visual sources, and other historical evidence and write essays expressing historical arguments.
Course Design
AP World History:Modern is the study of the foundations of what we consider modern history and the connections between the old world and the modern world. It focuses on space (various societies around the world), time (the chronology the rise and fall of human societies from 500AD to modern day), systems of beliefs, and the interaction of these societies when they met each other at different times in history (through conquests, colonization and settlements, and trade).
AP World History:Modern is the analytical and comparative study of human societies and the systems they have put in place. Students will develop a thematic approach of various historical eras, learning to identify similar patterns and differences, in order to formulate and express a judgment through essays and class presentation. Students will therefore develop and acquire research, reading, analytical, and organizing skills. Simultaneously, the students will be prepared to take the AP World History:Modern exam. A prerequisite knowledge of World History is required prior taking the exam.
The course will be divided into two semesters.
Fall 2021 : Study of the ways in which the Abrahamic religions will go on to dominate the world to the expansion of various empires, and the development of states (from 550AD to AD 1750)
During the first semester, the focus will be on the first half of the first textbook. A Midterm and a Final exam will follow. The first semester aims at providing students with a general view of the world main past civilizations.
Spring 2022: Study of Modern History (from AD 1750 to Present)
During the second semester, the focus will be on the second half of the textbook. Additional material and preparation are required to prepare for the AP World History:Modern exam format. A Midterm and a Final exam will follow. Knowledge taught during the first semester is a prerequisite to start the second semester.
