Course Overview
English is the foundation for all learning. The goal of English Language Arts is to create literate, thoughtful communicators, capable of controlling language effectively as they negotiate an increasingly complex and information-rich world. Students will refine specific skills and strategies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing and will use these skills and strategies widely as tools for learning and reflection.
Tutoring Program
Middle School ELA evolves and expands to include more complicated reading comprehension, such as fiction, poetry and essays. In addition, grammar and semantics become a focal point of lessons, and students begin to foster writing skills that encompass poetry, expository writing and creative writing. Students are expected to expand vocabularies and develop a mature grasp of the five categories of language arts: reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing.
With our tutoring, your student will learn how to :

- Continue to build and expand vocabulary
- Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and introducing characters
- Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are suitable to task, purpose, and audience
Listening and Speaking
- Interpret figures of speech (verbal irony, puns) in context
- Present findings with logical and pertinent descriptions, facts and details to accentuate key ideas
